Volunteer Opportunities

Mentorship

Approximately 70 7th-12th grade Scholars meet up at Tasby Middle School every Thursday from 6:00-8:00 pm to engage in college readiness activities.

Activities include applying to magnet schools, working on interviewing skills, career exploration, college research, financial literacy, scholarship essays, and more.

We ask that our Mentors commit to every Thursday night for at least a semester. If you feel like this is something you could commit to, email Daisy Gonzalez at daisy@vmydf.com

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

Opportunity Descriptions:

  • We want to make sure our Scholars are confident and prepared going into their interviews for high school, for jobs, and for scholarships. Each year we do an interviewing workshop with Professionals and our Scholars to help them make sure their resumes, attire, and interviewing skills are on point.

  • We recognize that networking is a crucial part of getting jobs and discovering pathways in life. Each year we offer our Scholars a Networking workshop so that they can practice connecting with professionals.

  • Help students stay on track their senior year. Edit and critique their scholarship essays. Times and dates vary upon scholarship deadlines.

  • We need sponsors! Opportunities include: sponsor a table at one of our Networking/Interviewing events, provide food for a field trip, or provide college baskets for our Seniors on College Signing Day.

  • Every year we deliver books to the elementary schools in the Vickery neighborhood. In addition, our Scholars LOVE to read. Please consider coordinating a book drive for our diligent readers. Click here for a list of books to purchase.

  • If you are part of a team or group that would like to establish a partnership with VMYDF, please reach out to Dr. Janet Morrison-Lane to discuss how you can get involved!
