ABOUT VICKERY MEADOW YOUTH DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION

Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation was founded in 2007 to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for students and families in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas, Texas with a mission of connecting youth to the capacity-building resources they need to unlock their full potential. The Vickery Meadow community is characterized by its diverse population, with residents originating from over 16 countries and speaking more than 30 languages. 

As college access and availability has become more challenging, specifically for black and brown and first generation students, VMYDF recognizes the importance of removing barriers that exist to help under-estimated youth achieve their dream of college and a career. VMYDF is a comprehensive educational organization focused on youth’s educational progression from sixth grade through college graduation while also supporting families to navigate the educational system. 

  • Salary Range: $47-$50,000

    Hours: 40 hours/week, some evenings and weekends

    Role Summary:

    The College Success Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting the College Success Director by directly assisting Scholars in grades 7-12 in their academic and personal growth. The coordinator collaborates with staff, parents, and community partners to ensure the successful implementation of college readiness programming and community engagement initiatives. This position focuses on providing mentorship, facilitating programs, and fostering strong relationships with stakeholders while managing day-to-day logistics and supporting the overall goals of the College Success program.

    Core Competencies:

    • Mentorship and Engagement: Ability to inspire and guide Scholars through academic and personal development, creating a supportive environment that fosters agency and self-advocacy.

    • Program Support and Coordination: Skilled in assisting with program delivery, managing logistics, and ensuring seamless execution of college readiness activities.

    • Relationship Building: Proficient in building and maintaining strong connections with Scholars, families, and community partners to enhance program success.

    • Organizational and Communication Skills: Strong abilities in managing schedules, documenting activities, and using CRM systems for tracking Scholar progress.

    • Diversity and Inclusion: Awareness and sensitivity to cultural diversity, promoting equitable opportunities for all Scholars.

    Role Responsibilities:

    Program Support:

    • Assist the College Success Director in executing college readiness programs, including workshops, college fairs, and career awareness activities.

    • Facilitate smooth transitions for Scholars as they progress through middle school, high school, and into college.

    • Coordinate program logistics such as transportation, scheduling, and inventory management for events and outings.

    • Maintain accurate records of Scholar participation and progress using CRM tools.

    • Assist Director with supervising and managing interns, oversee tasks and activities, and report feedback to the College Success Director.

    Scholar Engagement:

    • Provide one-on-one and group mentorship to Scholars, helping them build self-advocacy and agency.

    • Support Scholars in navigating the educational system, including college applications, financial aid, and scholarship processes.

    • Foster Scholar involvement in cultural, career, and college readiness activities.

    • Assist the College Success Director with social media content creation, event photography, and bi-weekly newsletter development.

    Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Build positive relationships with parents, school staff, and community partners to support Scholar success.

    • Represent the organization at community events and collaborate with external stakeholders to enhance programming.

    • Work with interpreters or bilingual staff to ensure inclusive communication with families from diverse backgrounds.

    Resource Management:

    • Assist in maintaining program resources, ensuring supplies are accounted for and well-organized.

    • Adhere to fiscal and compliance guidelines in all program operations.

    Role Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

    • Experience working with middle and high school students in mentorship, counseling, or educational roles.

    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to multitask and manage schedules effectively.

    • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and CRM systems.

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

    • Willingness to drive a 15-passenger van (must meet insurance requirements).

    • Bilingual proficiency or conversational fluency in a second language is preferred.

    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and work in varying environmental conditions.

    Role Summary

    The Summer Assistant Director (AD) is a key leadership role within our summer program, responsible for creating an engaging, hands-on learning experience for Teen Leaders in our community. Over a nine-week period (May 19 - July 25), the AD will facilitate trainings, oversee program implementation, guide a team of five college interns, and support approximately 60 teenagers (referred to as Teen Leaders) in a project-based learning environment focused on college, career, and cultural exploration.

    The AD will serve as a mentor, coach, and problem-solver—helping interns develop curriculum, fostering a positive and interactive learning atmosphere, coordinating logistics, and ensuring a smooth and impactful summer experience. This role is ideal for someone who values education beyond the classroom, believes in empowering youth, and thrives in a dynamic, community-centered environment.

    Core Competencies

    • Mentorship & Leadership – Ability to train and support college-aged interns in leading engaging, student-driven learning experiences.

    Role Responsibilities

    Program Leadership & Intern Support

    • Supervise and mentor college interns, guiding them in developing and implementing engaging lesson plans.

    • Provide training and ongoing support in project-based learning techniques to ensure high-quality programming.

    • Observe classrooms and coach interns on effective teaching strategies, engagement techniques, and classroom management.

    • Ensure interns document student learning through observations, quotes, photos, and videos.

    Teen Leader Engagement & Learning

    • Create an environment where teenagers take ownership of their learning through project-based and experiential activities.

    • Encourage collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership through real-world applications of college, career, and culture topics.

    • Support Teen Leaders in developing essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, organization, and digital literacy.

    • Help track attendance and follow up with absentees to ensure consistent participation.

    Program Logistics & Administration

    • Order and manage program supplies through an online system.

    • Coordinate field trips and special activities, ensuring smooth execution and student engagement.

    • Maintain accurate records of participation, progress, and program highlights for reporting and evaluation.

    • Serve as a point of contact for parents, addressing concerns and keeping them informed.

    Community Engagement & Collaboration

    • Work closely with the Program Director and fellow Assistant Directors to ensure program consistency and effectiveness.

    • Represent the program at community events and foster relationships with local organizations.

    • Ensure guest speakers and presenters align with the program’s values and goals.

    Role Segmentation

    • 50% -Supporting interns: Training, mentoring, and assisting with lesson planning and classroom engagement.

    • 30% - Program logistics: Managing supplies, coordinating field trips, ensuring program documentation.

    • 20% - Direct interaction with Teen Leaders: Coaching, discipline, and engagement in project-based learning activities.

    Role Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in education, youth development, nonprofit management, or related field (or equivalent experience).

    • At least one year of experience in education, youth programs, or an administrative leadership role.

    • Experience working with teenagers in a non-traditional learning environment.

    • Strong understanding of project-based learning and experiential education.

    • Ability to train and mentor college-aged staff in effective classroom engagement.

    • Bilingual (Spanish or other languages spoken in the Vickery community) strongly preferred.

    • Tech-savvy: Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, social media, and digital communication tools.

    • Must be 23 or older with a valid driver’s license (required to drive a van).

    Time Commitment and Compensation

    • Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM during program dates.

    • Pre-program planning & training (compensated hours before May 19).

    • Additional 3.5 hours compensated per week for curriculum planning (June 16 – July 25).
